Bunny brings Boksburg mom R100k

If a bunny arrives with your grocery order, you are a winner!

Nicolene de Jager, a single mom from Boksburg, celebrated a R100 000 windfall on March 11, delivered to her by a bunny in a shopping bag.

De Jager won the first Pick n Pay asap! promotion. The promotion ends on April 1.

If a bunny arrives with your grocery order, you are a winner, which Nicolene discovered after doing a quick online shop to get potatoes for dinner.

An emotional Nicolene told the retailer this bunny had changed her life.

“January and February were the worst months of my life, financially, but now I can help my son (15) go on a rugby tour, and my daughter (17) take part in dancing championships later this year and put money away for my daughter’s matric dance.”

On March 11, Nicolene placed a Pick n Pay asap! order in the morning after thinking about what to cook for dinner and realising she didn’t have potatoes.

“I knew I had a small credit on my app, so I bought potatoes, cheese, bread and chips for the children. I knew I should not add the extras, but we love cheese, and it was on special, and they like crisps. I saw that as a treat; nothing better for lunch than a toasted cheese,” she said.

“I pressed the place order check out button with a very stressed heart, not knowing how the rest of my week would go.”

When the driver arrived, Nicolene smiled despite her heavy heart, thanked him and took her parcels.

“I wondered why the one bag was so light and thought perhaps it was the bread. Opening the package, I saw the cutest bunny ever. At first, I thought it was a gift promotion, and then I saw the pamphlet telling me I had won, and I thought, ‘No, it cannot be’.

“In almost 40 years, I have never won anything.”
