Annual GBV awards to honour champions

The winners will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges working in the field.

Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organisation is thrilled to announce the launch of the second annual Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awards, an initiative aimed at recognising and celebrating individuals, organisations, and initiatives that have made outstanding contributions to combating gender-based violence.

GBV remains a pervasive and alarming global issue, affecting millions of individuals each year. The GBV Awards were established to shed light on the relentless efforts of those working towards eradicating violence, promoting gender equality, and fostering safer communities.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place on March 9 at Theatre of Marcellus, at Emperors Palace, in Kempton Park, where recipients will be honoured in various categories, including: Best Male GBV activist, Best Female GBV activist, Best Police Officer dealing with GBV, Best GBV Organisation, Best GBV Ambassador, Community Builder of the Year, Best Pastor Supporting GBV, and Best Community Journalist.

The motive behind these awards is to recognise individuals or organisations which have significantly impacted local communities by raising awareness and implementing programmes to address GBV; acknowledging and recognising outstanding journalism, storytelling, or media campaigns that have brought attention to the issue of GBV and influence positive change; to honour religious leaders and police service members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to advocating for victims and survivors of GBV.

The winners will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges comprising experts and activists working in the field of gender-based violence prevention and support. Giving their voices to the cause, guest artists Andile Thabethe, Puleng March, Idols finalist Lungisa Xhamela, Mmatema and Williams Sejake and others will be performing on the evening.

“Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organization remains committed to creating a world free from GBV and hopes that the GBV Awards will inspire and motivate individuals and organisations to join the collective effort in addressing this critical issue,” said the organisation’s executive director, Cynthia Dinalane.

Tickets are available at Ticketpro and SPAR Payzone kiosks. The show starts at 5PM.
