Toy Run time is …. here!

Bring a toy and come enjoy the fun.

Engines are revving, and fluffy teddies are being carefully tied to the handlebars as bikers across Gauteng prepare for the 41st annual Toy Run at Benoni Northerns Sports Club on November 26.

It is the 12th consecutive year that this event is hosted in Benoni, thus making our city the longest-standing host in the charity event’s history.

“I am immensely proud that we once have the privilege of hosting this event,” said Pete Beart, the chairperson of the trust, an organiser and Northmead resident.

“The community’s support has contributed to our success, and we therefore invite you to line the streets to welcome the riders.”

Marshalled mass rides will leave at 09:00 from Irene Village Mall, The Blockhouse, Carnival City and Silverstar Casino, with riders expected to reach the venue from 09:30.

“Routes leading to the Northerns will be affected, and road closures will come into effect to ensure the safety of motorcyclists,” said Beart.

“Five local metros and the Gauteng traffic police will lead the convoy of riders, while 350 volunteers from the Benoni CPF and local security will assist with traffic control as participants make their way to the venue.

“These individuals are trained and will be redirecting traffic to ensure that disruptions for other road users are kept to a minimum.”

Roads that will be closed or may potentially be affected by higher traffic volumes:

• Atlas Road near the R21

• Great North Road

• Hospital Road

• Brodigan Street

• O’Reilly Merry Street

• Celia Nestadt Road

• Fourteenth Avenue

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the event.

To gain entry, simply bring a toy, stationery or toiletries.

Vendors will sell their goods at the market, and Tryst and Back Bone will perform live.

Bring the family, grab a bite to eat, and donate to those less fortunate.
