Tambo Memorial Hospital celebrates the day every year.

Tambo Memorial Hospital CEO Zenzo Ndabula demonstrated the importance of hygiene on October 19 as part of the hospital’s commemoration of the Global Hand Washing Day.

This day is celebrated on October 15 annually.

Tambo Memorial Hospital’s spokesperson, Zoliswa Nzeku, said the hospital celebrated on October 19, as they couldn’t do it on October 15 because it was a Sunday.

“Global Hand Washing Day is often celebrated to remind healthcare workers and patients about the importance of hand hygiene. Tambo Memorial Hospital celebrates the day every year,” she mentioned.

She said the participation of the CEO in the day was to educate employees and patients of the hospital about the importance of proper hand hygiene practices.

“He also promoted the culture of safety within our hospital. The employees of the hospital know that hand hygiene is a culture in the hospital,” said Nzeku.

“Hand washing plays a vital role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and ensures safety for both patients and healthcare workers.

“According to various studies, keeping your hands clean can save you from one in three diarrheal illnesses and one in five respiratory infections, such as flu.

“The commemoration event of the day was organised by the infection prevention control department in collaboration with the environmental health practitioners department of the hospital,” she concluded.
