NPO helps school girls

Purple Hearts will host more sanitary pads drives.

The Purple Hearts NPO donated 106 packets of sanitary pads to young girls from the Ramaphosa informal settlement on October 7 at Agape Grace Ministries Church.

The co-founder of Purple Hearts, Maggie Matjila, said they formed the NPO in April this year after realising many girls in the area cannot afford these personal hygiene products.

“Some girls would come to me asking for money to buy pads. Since the establishment of the NPO, we have collected over 200 packets of sanitary pads,” she explained.

Purple Hearts is also using the opportunity to educate young girls about the importance of personal hygiene.

The co-founder of the NPO, Katiso Mpinane, said they wanted to grow the organisation and are looking into manufacturing their own sanitary pads.

The co-founder of Purple Hearts Katiso Mpinane explained the objective of his NPO.

“We want to start small by donating pads to girls in Ekurhuleni, and later will expand our donations to girls in other provinces. Our target is to distribute 200 packets of sanitary pads each month, mainly to underprivileged school girls,” he said.

The NPO needs sponsors to help them reach this target.

The sanitary pads drive was supported by Thusang Community Development NPO, Ramaphosa Community Platform and social workers from Ramaphosa Clinic and SANCA, former Miss Ramaphosa, Miss Youth 2023 and Miss Boksburg 2023.
