Sassa: Note alternative forms of payments

Social grants have increased as of October 1.

Sassa wishes to inform its beneficiaries of other alternative forms of payment they can choose to receive their social grant.

According to Sassa Gauteng spokesperson Nandi Mosia, the option includes using an existing personal bank account or opening a new bank account with a bank of your choice, if beneficiaries don’t have an existing account.

“Clients should bring their ID, official proof from the bank that the account is in the applicant’s name and a client will then complete a form from SASSA where they consent to their social grant money being paid into their confirmed personal bank account.

“This consent form should have the client’s reachable and active contact details in case the office needs to contact you.”

Mosia said should there be monies in the previous card that the client used to receive their social grant, that money must be withdrawn, as only money for the coming month will be paid into the new account.

Sassa beneficiaries are advised to not destroy the old card until the money is paid into the new card.

“If a client is requesting a change of payment method from another province, they should be aware that this process requires a transfer of their details from one province to the next and may delay the process. If the client’s first grant application was not made in Gauteng offices, kindly provide us with your correct contact details,” said Mosia.

October payment dates:

• October 3, old age grants followed by disability grounds on October 4. Children’s grants will be paid from October 5.

Clients are reminded that social grants have increased as of October 1 as follows:

• Older persons grant up from R2 080 to R2 090 for recipients between 60 and 74 years old and R2 110 for recipients over 75
