Women empowered in Women’s Conference

Another conference will be hosted next year.

Inspire Us hosted the second annual Women’s Conference under the theme ‘She Is’ at the Lutheran Church Hall in Reiger Park, on August 12.

The founder of Inspire Us, Julie Whitecomb-Abdul, said they hosted the event to inspire, motivate, uplift and empower each other as women from different communities.

“I believe that communicating and connecting with one another as women is vital. With these women’s conferences, I’m offering women an opportunity to do that at a brother scale.

“We hosted our first conference last year in August, and we hope to continue hosting the conferenceswomen becauwomense they have yielded positive results so far,” she explained.

She added that women encourage and motivate each other during the conferences because they equally share how they changed their terrible situations into positive ones.

“Women learnt a lot from the recent conference. It was well-supported, including the first one. The Department of Health was at the conference to medical assist the attendees,” she stated.

She mentioned that they will be hosting another women’s conference next year, and men will be included because we have also realised that they suffer in silence.

Beverley Baker, one of the guest speakers, talked about the importance of forgiveness.

“It’s essential to forgive those who have wronged you and even yourself to move on with your life as an individual.

Even our Lord Jesus Christ preached about forgiveness if you follow his scriptures in the bible. There’s power in forgiveness,” she expressed.

Another guest speaker Rox-Anne Maistry said women must continue to unite against GBV.

“Most women die at the hands of abusers this must stop. We as women have to fight against this scourge.

Women must be empowered, so that they can leave any relationship that’s toxic to them,” stated Maistry.

She added that women mustn’t be afraid to leave an abusive relationship.
