Nine suspected illegal miners arrested at a mine dump
They will be more anti-illegal mining operations.
The Reiger Park police in partnership with other law enforcement authorities arrested nine suspected illegal miners at the Angelo mine dump on August 15 during a targeted operation.
According to spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, one of the suspects was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, a knife and three airtime machines suspected to be stolen.
“We also confiscated equipment suspected to be used in illegal mining activities, such as generators, shovels, wood handle picks and wheelbarrows,” added Msimanga.
“Illegal mining has a huge contribution to the growing number of murders in our area and we want to put an end to it. This was our first operation and it was successful so we are going to run more of them,” said Msimanga.
