Businesses, organisations do their part for Mandela Day at Cosmos

Mandela Day well spent at Cosmos Old Age Home.

Businesses and government departments dedicated 67 minutes for Mandela Day (July 18) by lending a hand at Cosmos Old Age Home.

The Southern Sun OR Tambo Hotel created a vegetable garden at the Cosmos Old Age Home. George Rennie & Co from Benoni followed suit by donating toiletry gift packs and a cake to the elders.

Boksburg Sassa and the Department of Social Development also did their part by spending time with the residents of the old age home.

Patric Maphangule, an employee of the Southern Sun OR Tambo Hotel said they created something special at the old age home.

“We came here to plant vegetables, because we wanted to do something sustainable as part of 67 minutes of Mandela Day.

“Vegetable gardens are very important, especially now in this dire economic state and after Covid-19,” said Maphangule.

The employees of the Southern Sun OR Tambo Hotel and the old people who are housed at the Cosmos Old Age Home.

 

Barend Laing, an employee of George Rennie & Co, said the elderly are special and that’s why they wanted to do something special for them.

The George Rennie & Co employees who donated toiletry gift packs and a cake to the elderly.

“From here we are going to the Benoni SPCA to also help out there and we are also going have a soup kitchen in Benoni later. Tomorrow we are going to donate some of the items in the Colin House’s wish list. The organisation is in Benoni,” he concluded.
