Have fun and learn while walking

Melville Koppies is both a heritage site and a nature reserve.

‘It’s such fun to learn while we’re walking,’ one visitor on a Melville Koppies guided tour said. ‘And such a variety of things we’ve learnt,’ another remarked.

According to Jenny Grice, Melville Koppies volunteer, you’ll hear about distant dinosaurs, conniving cuckoos that drop their eggs in weaver birds’ nests, the differing histories of all those that once roamed the Koppies and much, much more.

“Book a guided tour for a Sunday morning at 08:00 on 079 532 0083, R100 per person. Don’t worry if you’re on your own, you can join others that have booked and enjoy three hours of guided rambling across the Koppies.” said Grice.

In the end, you’ll understand why Melville Koppies is both a heritage site and a nature reserve.

She added that if you’d prefer to guide yourselves, Melville Koppies is open every Sunday from 08:00 to 11:30.

Challenge yourself on the 5km hike, self-guide yourselves along the many paths that criss-cross the nature reserve or just chill on the top and breathe in the beautiful views.
