Metro implements load reduction in Boksburg to stabilise the grid

The load reduction measures came after the explosion of a major substation in Andebolt early this week.

A high demand for power supply from residential areas and factories has forced the City of Ekurhuleni to implement load reduction in the Boksburg areas supplied by the Andebolt substation, to ensure balanced distribution of power.

The blocks of load reduction measures have already started, and according to the issued schedule and alert, areas affected include Anderbolt residential and factories, Beyers Park residential and factories, North Rand Road factories, and Birchwood Hotel.
The load reduction in affected areas will take place in 10-hour intervals as follows: residential areas will be on from 18:00 to 08:00, and factories will be on from 08:00 to 18:00.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini clarified that the city is implementing the load reduction by rotating power from one block to another during the 10-hour periods in the particular zone, as opposed to leaving the residential area or industrial areas without power for prolonged hours.
Factories are requested to reduce load as much as possible to allow more customers to have a power supply.
In the meantime, all affected residents and businesses are encouraged to treat all electrical networks as live at all times.
