Learner aims to change the lives of youth

The young girl aims to improve the lives of her peers.

A Grade 12 learner of Windmill Park High School, Nosipho Phungula (17), has formed an NPO named Smangele Organisation.

The NPO aims to empower the youth and equip young women with leadership skills.

Phungula said she established the organisation in 2020.

“I formed the organisation shortly after I graduated from a programme called Junior Achievement South Africa that equips young people with entrepreneurial skills. I was in Grade Nine at the time.

“Being part of the programme helped me to learn a lot about myself and take up my role in society. While I discovered who I was, I noticed that a lot of young people don’t understand who they are and they mostly focus on irrelevant things.

“So I took up the role of helping my peers. I mentor them and I also do motivational talks in schools. I lost my mother when I was eight months old,” said Phungula.

She added that she didn’t get a chance to know her mother, but she just wants to make her proud in heaven by helping people.

“I believe that we have the potential to be great and we can only achieve that if we work together. Youngsters need to know that they can achieve anything and that they are future leaders.

“With the NPO, I have done school motivation tours and hosted a semiannual #GirlsTalkZa for girls. They have yielded good results. My main goal now is to fight the scourge of drugs,” she concluded.

Any person who wants to use the the services of the organisation can callPhungula on 067 193 6508 or follow the organisation on Facebook: Sma.Org and Instagram: @SmaOrganisation.
