Local gardening business helps to keep streets clean

The business couldn't stand the condition of the road and decided to do something about it.

Sunflower Landscape and Gardening Services recently took responsibility for cleaning up the islands and verges adjacent to the Bokkie Park on Trichardts Road.

Business owner Freddie Conradie explained they drive the road daily and could not bare the terrible eyesore that it had become.

“We mowed the lawns, cut the edges, cleared the street verges and collected the debris, cuttings and refuse and dumped it accordingly,” he said.

Conradie said they have been cleaning up in Boksburg and neighbouring areas for some time now.

“I cannot believe that the level of service delivery in our once beautiful Boksburg has deteriorated to almost null.

“Cleaning it up has always played on my mind, but time has not allowed any action until recently.

“We are blessed to have wonderful partners in this project, such as Dunlop Belting Products, which pays us to maintain two parks in Benoni, which they have legally adopted. The parks were in a terrible state and took weeks to get into a maintainable state.”

He said the generous contribution from Greg Grose of Grose Properties made it possible for them to clean up Heidelberg Road in Boksburg South/Parkdene.

“He has also been so kind as to agree to a monthly fee to maintain this verge, which we will do every week.”

Furthermore, some residents in Truter Road have generously paid for the clean-up opposite their houses.

“This is in no way a moment for Sunflowers to boast. We are simply cleaning up where we can when we have free time,” said Conradie.
