Get to know Round Table’s new chairperson

Round Table gives Cuan the opportunity to give back to the people and make a difference in the community.

Round Table Boksburg 17’s Cuan Maizey (32) is determined to take the table to new heights as the new chairperson.

He recently took over the reins from Walter van Rooyen.

He shared more of himself and his plans for the table with the Boksburg Advertiser.

Q: How long have you been part of Round Table and what made you stay?
I started my Round Table career in 2015 as a guest and was inducted in April 2016.
What keeps bringing me back to table is the friendships made and working towards a common goal, which is improving the community.

Q: Why did you become involved with the organisation?
When I first attended a meeting I was overwhelmed with the professionalism, camaraderie and everything they had on the meeting agenda. I could see how this is an organisation where I can learn and grow so much as well as give back. I knew this is for me.

Q: How do you feel about being inducted as the new chairperson?
Excited, motivated and proud. I look forward to growing the table. I have an excellent council and we have a solid plan for this year.
It is a special year to be chairperson as this year Round Table Boksburg 17 turns 70.

Q: What is your favourite memory of the organisation?
My fondest memory of the organisation is my induction as a member in front of the entire association at the AGM in 2016. There are so many memories that bring a smile to my face. Every single project and person we could help make me happy.

Q: What is your vision for Round Table Boksburg?
My vision for Round Table Boksburg is to become once more the strongest table in the Gauteng Area in terms of membership and community involvement. We have awesome projects planned with a key view of involving the community in our projects. Handing over a healthy and strong table to the next chairperson in a better position than before in such a way that he can continue to lead and grow table and change lives.

Q: Do you have any new projects in mind?
One of the projects I am excited about is the Chicken Parade project where we will clean up the community. The goal of this project is to get the community involved to clean up the surrounding areas.

We will host our annual Donkey Derby in October this year. Last year was a great success. Keep your eyes peeled as you don’t want to miss out on this one.

Q: What project from Round Table is close to your heart and why?
It is difficult to name one as we have had so many successful projects. The projects where we put smiles on underprivileged children’s faces are always special.

Having a potjiekos or Christmas party at the old age homes is just as special to me, especially listening to the history and interesting stories they tell.

The most fun project is the Sabie Tube race – an event that should be on anyone’s bucket list.

Q: Do you have any advice for a person with a busy schedule that would like to give back to the community?
Get in touch with Round Table, we have numerous projects one can get involved in.

This is a platform to make it easy for people to give back.

We meet once a month on the second Tuesday of the month.

If you are a young man between 18 and 40 and want to get involved please contact us on Facebook at Round Table Boksburg 17 or email hercules.boksburg17@gmail.com

Q: Can you give us a few interesting facts about yourself?
I have a great passion for martial arts.

I love the outdoors and hike a lot.

My favourite colour is green.

One of my goals is to achieve a master’s degree in business administration.

When I was a kid I wanted to become an entomologist.
