Muso hopes new song inspires fans to listen more

The single was released in March and is available on Spotify and other patforms.

Daveyton songbird Ritta M hopes the soothing yet infectious message in her latest single Lalela, will inspire her fans to become insightful listeners.

Born Ritta Mkhondo, in Lalela, which translates to ‘listen’, the singer and songwriter pours her heart out, inviting fans to sympathise with and support those who are suicidal and battling depression by listening attentively to them.

“Sometimes we assume we all have a similar way of expressing our feelings but we have our own ways of expressing ourselves and we also have a unique way to spread love.”

“The songstress was influenced by the increase in depression-related suicides, which she said most were a result of not listening attentively and paying attention to the subtle messages from the victims”.

“We all have different ways of showing love to those close to us or the things we are passionate about. Some people may not feel your love because of the way you express it. The message is that we should pay attention to how people communicate and express themselves, especially with depression on the rise and people committing suicide,” she said.

The singer has grown her footprint in the music industry, especially in southern Africa, through her ear-piercing vocals and relatable storytelling told over the “get up and hit the dance floor” sounds of amapiano.

“My music speaks to different people, genres and racial groups. When I write songs, they are about life. I’m inspired by the daily experiences of the people around me.”

Not in a rush to release an album, Mkhondo said her focus is on singles and EPs to promote her brand so that her fans can put “a face to the voice”.

“I’m still building my brand. I won’t be releasing an album anytime soon. I want people to know who Ritta M is. For now, I’m going out and perform so that I can create a fan base.”

The song is available on Spotify and other platforms.
