Urban Ruins needs your help to feed the hungry

The non-profit organisation is also appealing for goodies to give mothers on May 27.

The Plantation based NPO Urban Ruins is appealing for support for its feeding scheme.

Donations of bread, non-perishables (canned food, maize, rice and pasta), and fresh vegetables are needed.

According to Clayton Viljoen, Urban Ruins CEO, their feeding scheme, initiated about two years ago, visits Reiger Park, Comet, Blue Sky informal settlement and Boksburg CBD every second week of the month to feed about 400 people.

“Recipients receive a warm meal prepared by Thava Indian Restaurant and sponsored by HopeSA,” he said.

Urban Ruins also distributes food parcels to 300 families at least twice a month in the aforementioned areas.

These are made possible by generous donations from Checkers Bonearo Park and Pick n Pay Hypermarket at Eastpoint Shopping Centre.

The organisation also receives 50 food hampers for distribution twice a month from the Benoni Ladies Forum.

These hampers are donated to families affected by the Boksburg gas tanker explosion on Christmas Eve.

Urban Ruins is also appealing for items to make up goodie bags they intend to hand out on May 27 during a special event to honour mothers.
