Power restored after massive electricity outage in Boksburg

Technicians are, however, still working to repair the damaged infrastructure in Yaldwyn Road, Bartlett.

Thousands of residents in the northern parts of Boksburg are breathing a sigh of relief now that the metro has finally managed to fully restore power in their suburbs, following many hours of languishing in the dark.

Affected areas included Witfield, Comet, Cason, Boksburg North, Ravenswood, Beyers Park, Delmore Park, Dayan Glen, Lilianton, Ravensklip, Hughes, Jet Park and surroundings.
Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini confirmed this morning that the power supply has been fully restored to all the affected areas around 08:00.

This came after the city was forced to implement a rotational schedule yesterday after an attempted cable theft that caused serious damages to the 132kV cables in Yaldwyn Road, resulting in the prolonged power outages.

Although it was initially speculated that due to the extent of the damage repairing the network would take a couple of days, technicians who worked around the clock managed to get the job done at least within 24 hours.

Dlamini pointed out that although power has been restored, the city’s technicians are still on-site repairing the damaged cable.
The metro is appealing to members of the public to remain on high alert and vigilant against cable thieves.
“We are on stage six load-shedding as we speak and the last thing people need is to be disorganised by thugs,” said Dlamini.
Customers are urged to use electricity sparingly and report any illegal activities to the city’s customer service call centre on 0860 453 000.
