IPID investigating fatal R554 crash involving Boksburg North SAPS vehicle

The man who died was pushing a car on the R554.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal accident on the R554 on April 22 involving an official Boksburg North SAPS vehicle.

IPID spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said the facts are unclear at this stage.

“It was reported that the vehicle that was involved in the accident with the police vehicle was being pushed on the road because it had run out of petrol.

“The passenger who was pushing the vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the scene while the police officer and his passenger were taken to hospital for treatment,“ said Raburabu.

The police vehicle was a Toyota Etios while the other vehicle was a Toyota Yaris.

A Ford Ranger was also reportedly hit by the Yaris following the impact of the collision.

The damaged SAPS vehicle is currently at the Boksburg North police station.

The Boksburg Advertiser contacted the station commander of Boksburg North SAPS, Colonel Mack Mngomezulu for comment. He said he was on leave and referred us to the provincial SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, who did not respond to our numerous attempts to get comment.
