Fun day shows community is stronger together

The organisations wanted to prove they are stronger together.

RySky Foundation NPC held an outreach programme at Laerskool Goudrand to uplift the community of Boksburg after several recent tragic events, including the tanker explosion and the atrocious attack of a young boy in the community.

The event’s purpose was to raise awareness of various social ills within the community and how to best deal with these problems. It covered topics such as anti-bullying, fire safety, homelessness, addiction recovery and parolee integration.

“Having worked with various organisations and role players in the East Rand over several years, we called on organisations to assist us with this outreach to raise awareness of the above which is rampant in our communities.

RySky Foundation firmly adopts the motto ‘Together we are stronger’, which makes working within the communities so much easier as one can tap into reliable and available resources within these communities,” said Annamaria Lechki from Rysky Foundation.

Over 300 adults and kids attended the event where they were able to see the bikers come into the stadium on their motorcycles. Hot cooked meals were served to all adults and kids, which were prepared by various organisations and individuals. Kids also enjoyed an Easter hunt.

“On behalf of all organisations involved, Urban Ruins, Be A Light Foundation, Manger Care Center, KCCC Foundation, Warriors Recovery Center, Revive, Golden East 181 Round Table, Reathusa, Child Protection Hotline, Chaplain Tony from SAPS Elsburg, Samir Community Kitchen, Peace Haven For Children, Ekurhleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, Laerskool Goundrand, we would like to thank the school for hosting the event and to all those who were brave enough to come out in their numbers and welcome us in their community and speak about personal issues affecting them.”

Lechki highlighted the next event they will be hosting in Boksburg will be for high school learners, addressing substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, mental health, bullying, peer pressure, obesity and healthy eating habits, violence, teenage pregnancy, poverty and homelessness, academic problems and tertiary education.

“We ask the corporate community and specialists in the mentioned fields to contact us and assist with their knowledge and sponsorship to educate and guide our future leaders.

“We are also in the beginning stages of planning and executing a big clean up around and in Blue Sky informal settlement. Charitable giving will ensure a successful execution of the cleanup,” she explained.

RySky Foundation NPC is a registered NPC, NPO, PBO Essential Services Provider providing care services and social relief to children, the elderly, the disadvantaged and disabled and directly to less fortunate communities, organisations and shelters.
