National shutdown: Locals share their views

Are people supporting the shutdown and will they feel safe on Monday?

The state assures the nation that measures are in place to prevent and combat any acts of criminality during the planned EFF’s mass protest.

Philani Doyisa: It is not safe, but it’s a good thing in a way because they are fighting for our rights as well. It is all a risk but for a good cause.

Meriam Chauke (businesswoman): I’m still thinking about whether to sell food on Monday. Business will be slow and not opening for the entire day will make us lose profit. I support what they are doing but not how they are doing it.

Samson Malaza: I am working on Monday. I do not like the way they do things. They do not involve or consult with us first; they act right away. They are fighting for the right thing in a wrong way.

Francois Lottering: I am working on Monday. If it is unsafe to go out I will work from home. We will have to wait and see what happens on Monday.

Sofie Chauke: I prefer staying at home for safety. I am afraid of the protestors in case something goes wrong.
