Centre of hope established in Delmore Park

The centre was opened on January 25.

The Lord Tabernacle Church in Delmore Park has opened the Delmore Park Restoration and Counselling Centre for homeless people and drug addicts.

According to the director of the centre, Tony Vanbelling, the centre was introduced to the community on January 25.

“The centre was created to restore the lives of people who are homeless and hopeless, through God’s name.

“We also impart skills to the people we shelter because we want them to be able to survive when they leave. We aim to restore the dignity of people who were once known to be thieves, drug addicts and futureless,” said Vanbelling.

The centre is currently housing 18 youngsters for a nine-month programme.

“They will be praying, singing and strengthening their mind through games. Our aim is to change the way they think so that they can be the better versions of themselves,” Vanbelling explained.

“We are also going to impart leadership, welding, coaching, drawing and building skills in the process. They are offered an opportunity to enjoy time with their families at the end of each month.”

Families will also get a first-hand opportunity to assess their loved one’s progress while they stay in the centre.
Pastor Faith Taylor, who helps at the centre, said she decided to help because she knows the effects and consequences of using drugs.

“I had a brother who used drugs and died. Now it’s my chance to make a difference by helping others affected by drugs.

“Every person deserves a second chance. We also give these youngsters a chance to run charity drives and motivate young people in schools,” said Taylor.

She added that they are in the process of creating a restoration centre for women.
