Businesses and charities win big with tree decorating competition

The competition was held in celebration of the mall's 30th birthday.

Two local businesses each won R20 000 for two charities of their choice, as well as R20 000 each for their
businesses, in the East Rand Mall’s (ERM) Jubilee of Christmas Trees campaign that ran from December 9 till January 3.

The ERM reached out to 30 businesses in the surrounding areas of Boksburg to decorate Christmas trees in celebration of its 30th birthday.

“We called the companies into the centre to randomly pick a tree to start decorating. We offered a starter pack for the tree decoration, and the companies added their look and feel. The local businesses had an opportunity to advertise their businesses using the Christmas trees,” explained the ERM marketing assistant, Tshepiso Kgowana.

The images of the trees were published on the ERM Facebook page, where fans had to go and ‘like’ their favourite tree.

The businesses, ByKylie Flowers and Gifting and Outcast Tattoos 818, received more than 1 300 likes, making them the winners. The winners then selected two charities each to win R10 000 in cash.

Outcast Tattoos chose to support the Kuselo Child Youth Services and Gudwulfs Pitbull Rescue, while ByKylie chose Shine and Urban Ruins.

Kylie Kaiser, the owner of ByKylie, said: “I appreciate the votes of confidence from everyone who supported the Christmas tree I decorated, and I applaud the effort by Outcast Tattoos to share the podium with ByKylie.

Two winners mean there are a few more good causes we can support, and that makes it all worthwhile. After all, we live for one another.”

Bianca Clark, the owner of Outcast Tattoos, said: “From the Outcast team, we would like to thank the East Rand Mall for an amazing opportunity to participate in this awesome competition.

“Thank you to every person who voted for us, and to all the companies that joined in. The best part of this was giving back to our community, and we cannot wait to enter again this Christmas.”
