Road closure notice for Boksburg south residents

The disruptions will take place from 05:00 to 14:00

The Dis-Chem Ride for Sight will be held in Boksburg south in and around the city stadium on Jubilee Road on February 19.

Residents are urged to take note that some traffic disruptions will take place from 05:30 to 14:00.

The affected roads are Jubilee Road around the stadium, Barry Marias Road, Essenhout, Keurboom, North Boundary Road [R554], the R103 in the Vosloorus Roodekop and Alrode areas, the R23 from Heidelberg and the R554 in the Carnival City areas.

Jubilee Road will have two-way traffic on the southbound side of the road from the City Stadium to Barry Marias from 05:15 until 14:00, while the northbound lanes will be for cyclists only.

Residents in the area who need to enter or exit their property should call the Communication JOC on 087 550 2482 to be escorted through the closed area.

Please allow extra time to get through the thousands of cyclists. Authorisation for the event has been granted by the City of Ekurhuleni, EMPD, the SAPS and the Gauteng Department of Roads.

Residents using North Boundary Road (West) from Carnival City should be extra cautious as cyclists will be changing lanes from the left lane to the right lane before they turn right into Keurboom Road.

A route map and more information are available on the ride website at www.retinasa.org.za/get-involved/dis-chem-ride-4-sight

Claudette Medefindt, race secretary, appealed to all residents to show caution and friendliness to the cyclists who will be cycling to restore the gift of sight.

“All the proceeds from the event will be utilised to support South Africans who are losing their vision due to conditions such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, Retinitis Pigmentosa and other retinal blinding condition. We are expecting the top South African cyclists to be there, please come out and cheer them on.

“Retinal vision loss affects thousands of South Africans who will be uplifted by the proceeds of this Road Cycling event. A benefit to the residents is that all potholes along the route will be filled,” she said.
