Vernon Koekemoer is on the road to recovery

It appears that Booyse's fifth hip operation was successful.

Cassie Booyse, better known as the internet sensation Vernon Koekermoer, is doing better after having a hip replacement on February 6.

The 66-year-old was admitted to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on February 3.

According to his partner Linda Coetzee, she was shocked to see him when he came out of the theatre.

“His blood pressure was very low and he was pale. They gave him blood and he looked better when I saw him yesterday. It appears the operation was a success.

“He is still in ICU, but hopefully will get transferred to a general ward today. He should be in hospital for about two more weeks and will also need physiotherapy.

“He is receiving good treatment at the hospital and they want to make sure he walks out of here.”

Booyse also underwent a hip operation in October, the fourth after having undergone three unsuccessful operations since 2019.

He has been bedridden due to these failed hip operations and endured so much pain that he ended up in the hospital again in September.

Coetzee thanked those who supported and prayed for them.

Booyse became an overnight internet sensation in 2008 after a photo of him at the H2O music festival, wearing shorts, a buttoned shirt and a mullet hairstyle, went viral.

He was so popular that he even appeared in a Nando’s commercial.
