Five-year-old boy struck by truck was supposed to start Grade R this year

The mother of the five-year-old boy who died after trying to climb onto a moving truck in Etwatwa on January 4 said she is battling to come to terms with the death of her child.
Bonisiwe Cindi told the Benoni City Times on January 5 that she does not believe that her child, Dumisani, attempted to get onto the moving truck because he was too short.
According to the mother-of-three, on that fateful day, Dumisani left her grandmother’s home to fetch peaches at a neighbour’s house, a few blocks away from his home.
“While on his way, he was apparently struck by the truck. When I got to the scene, his body was already in the mortuary van,” the distraught mother said.
Cindi said Dumisani was enrolled to start Grade R at school this year.
He lived with his 10-year-old sibling at his father’s home.
Cindi said the boy was a twin, but his sibling had died at birth.
“I am still shattered. It’s hard to believe that my child is no more. He was a lively child, sweet, and he loved playing with his friends,” she said.
The mother said they don’t know how they will bury their child because his father lost his job in July last year.
