Clean smart and cut out the stress

Planning your chores could mean spending less time with the broom and more time with your loved ones

The festive season is meant to spend long leisurely days feasting on lazy lunches.

Home becomes the centre of all the action as friends and family spend more time visiting, but by not planning smart when it comes to cleaning your home, the festive season may turn into a ‘stressed’ season.

Do not spend the summer holidays dancing with a mop, rather plan your cleaning schedule before receiving guests, ensuring that you can enjoy the festivities instead of feeling rushed off your feet.

Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for Personal Touch has the following tips:
• Plan ahead
Doing the cleaning on the day of having guests over, can become stressful and overwhelming. Look at what can be done on the days leading up to the special occasion.
Cleaning and preparing the cutlery and crockery needed for lunch can be organised the night before while windows or the oven can be cleaned in advance.

• Divide and conquer
Cleaning is a chore the entire family can help with. Give each member of the family a designated job – more hands, less work.

• Use multipurpose products
Spend less time flipping between products designed to clean certain areas of the home. Multipurpose products could lead to spending less time on cleaning.

• Everything in its place
Get into the habit of putting things back where they belong after use. You will be surprised to see that by packing items away, your home suddenly starts looking neater.

• Clean as you go.
Preparing a meal? Wash up as you cook. This prevents dirty dishes from piling up and your kitchen from looking like a mess.

Finished showering? Mop up the floor and wipe the basin. Before you know it, your bathroom is gleaming without breaking a sweat.
