Local law firm takes the netball courts to help charities

The charity marathon raised more than R50 000 for four charity organisations

Dressed in their various team colours, 25 mixed teams stepped up at Benoni Action Sport to participate in the first Hammond Pole (HP) Attorneys Charity Marathon.

The marathon, which saw teams going head-to-head on the field, playing eight-minute a side matches with a three-minute change-over was in aid of four charity institutions and raised over R50 000.

“Participating teams decided what charity they wanted to represent and got creative with their uniforms,” said Hendrihetta Meyer, organiser of the event and call centre manager.

“We identified Wollies Animal Shelter, Wet Nose Animal Rescue, Teddy Bear Foundations and Door of Hope, as the beneficiaries of the event.”

Warming up on the field are players from Apio Risk Services.

Members of the FutureSoft Superhero Red and Blue teams.

Noli Gaqa of VNS Ladies ensured that her team were supported and cheered on.

To ensure good sportsmanship Benoni Action Sport and its referees volunteered their time to the cause.

“We appreciate everyone’s support throughout the day,” said Brendan Michie, one of the directors at HP Attorneys.

“This event was a great deal of fun and the funds raised are sure to make a substantial impact on the financial burden that the charity organisations face.”
