Fire leaves five Blue Sky families in ruin

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Five families lost their belongings in a fire at the Blue Sky informal settlement on October 8.

According to one of the affected residents, Martiens Schimt, the fire broke out in a building in the backyard at about 18:30.

“We couldn’t save much and lost things such as clothing and documents. My parents, Jacques and Georgina, were affected most by the blaze.

“Luckily, nobody was injured,” he explained.

He added the fire was most likely caused by a short circuit in a generator.

The Boksburg North CPF is collecting necessities, including building materials, for the families.

Anybody who would like to assist may contact the chairperson of the Boksburg North CPF, Mark Gilpin, at 082 466 4459.
