Ekurhuleni reopens some of its swimming pools

This came after a month-long delay from the typical reopening day (September 1)

On October 1, the City of Ekurhuleni officially opened 15 of its swimming pools to the public, as opposed to the initial plan to reopen 20 of these facilities.

When asked to give reasons for suspending the reopening of the five other pools which were also set to reopen on October 1, metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the number of swimming pools was scaled down following a thorough inspection of the public leisure facilities.
He pointed out that an inspection, also attended by MMC Bakang Lethoko, was conducted prior to the set day of reopening, and the total had to be revised down in the light of the assessment report.

“Prior to opening the facilities, the city ensured that they undergo thorough maintenance and preparation to ensure a healthy and safe swimming environment to bathers.
“Whilst only a selected number of pools are open, the city continues with maintenance at all times to ensure that the water quality of all pools is compliant with the safety standards set by Life Saving SA and the aquatics regulatory authorities,” explained Dlamini.

The following pools are open:
• Birchleigh Swimming Pool
• Boksburg North Swimming Pool
• Delville Swimming Pool
• Edenvale Swimming Pool
• Klopper Park Swimming Pool
• Etwatwa Swimming Pool
• Benoni North Swimming Pool
• Leondale Swimming Pool
• Reiger Park Swimming Pool
• Van Dyk Park Swimming Pool
• Selection Park Swimming Pool
• Thokoza Swimming Pool
• Edenpark Swimming Pool
• Benoni Swimming Pool
• Faranani Swimming Pool

While a majority of the pools may be opened for use now, members of the public are advised to exercise caution and patience with one another as high public turnouts are anticipated due to the current hot weather conditions.
“Crowd control measures are in place, and life savers are deployed to the facilities to ensure the safety of the patrons.”
