Want to help ‘green’ Hillbrow?

If you can't be there but still want to support the initiative, drop off seeds and potting soil.

Remember Hillbrow?

Here’s your chance to help a collection of individuals and organisations “Green the City”.

The Twilight Innovation Hub, 10millionmakers, DigDeep, Rutegang Agricycling Co-op, Gaia Environmental Solutions, Lumbricus Wormery, Ingelosi Foundation, Jozi Sporting, The Simply African Seed Company and Seed2Harvest are some of the organisations rolling their sleeves this weekend to breathe some life into Hillbrow’s concrete jungle.

Those involved are passionate about finding ways to make sure that everyone who lives in the heart of Hillbrow can find and afford healthy fresh fruit and vegetables.

They will spend three hours turning discarded cold drink bottles into self-watering pot-plant holders, planting seeds and seedlings and creating innovative green walls – using things others overlook or throw away, to put food on the table.

This is the first step in a bigger direction. The public is invited to join.

If you can’t be there, but still want to support, drop off seeds, seedlings, potting soil, old cold drink bottles, wood and tools at the Twilight Innovation Hub in Fourways or Parkhurst.

Cash donations can be made to FNB Hillcrest account number 62849154373, branch code: 250655.

Join them on the corner of Van der Merwe and Claim streets on August 27 from 09:00 to 12:00.

Volunteers can bring potting soil, seeds/seedlings, empty 2l plastic cold drink bottles and gardening tools and if you are going to be rolling your sleeves up, gloves and a bucket will come in handy.

Safe, off-street parking is available.

Contact michele@10millionmakers.africa for more information about dropping donations or being there to help.
