#NationalShutdown: Ekurhuleni’s service delivery not disrupted by protest
Demonstrators are, among other things, calling for an end to the high rate of unemployment, ever-rising living costs and poor governance.
The City of Ekurhuleni assures residents that its services are not disrupted by today’s national strike led by Saftu and Cosatu.
“Offices and service delivery points in the city remain fully operational and our officials are ready to service residents.
“While contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that service delivery is not affected, residents are still requested to exercise caution when visiting municipal offices,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
Hundreds of protesters from different unions across the province were this morning seen marching through the streets of major towns across the country, before making their way to the government’s offices.
In Gauteng, demonstrators were seen gathering at Burgers Park in Pretoria and marching through the streets, heading to the Union Buildings to hand over a memorandum of demands as part of the National Shutdown.
Demonstrators are, among other things, calling for an end to the high rate of unemployment, ever-rising living costs and poor governance in the country. The Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele is expected to receive the memorandum of demands from National Shutdown demonstrators in Pretoria.
