SANCA Horizon growing stronger

The Alcohol and Drug facilities were erected to help people to overcome their drugs and alcohol addictions.

The director of SANCA Horizon Alcohol and Drug Centre, Sandra Pretorius, said reflecting on 2021/2022 the centre has grown from strength to strength.

It assisted thousands of people during the period. This was stated by Pretorius during the SANCA Horizon Clinc’s 61st AGM.The centre has assessed 482 adults, tested 674 and treated 440 in-patients.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, The Bridge Adolescent facility was used to treat adults in isolation.

“Hlengwani Adolescent In-patient Treatment Centre accommodated 126 children for that period with 200 assessments and 253 urine screening initiated.”

She added that at Daveyton they treated 758 patients suffering from substance use disorders through the outpatient programme.

“We have reached 15 079 through our prevention and awareness campaigns. We have reached 4776 children through puppet programmes and 51 986 children and youth in our Ke-Moja programmes. The Daveyton Clinic staff members have reached 72 161 people throughout the term.

“The newly established Barcelona facility has treated 438 service users with substance disorders. It has reached 33 311 people through the prevention and awareness campaigns and 23 634 through the door-to-door campaigns.

“They have reached 2 654 children with the puppet drive. The newly appointed staff at the Barcelona facility have reached 59 599 people in their campaigns. All the services that the people of Ekurhuleni have received were under the leadership of Fraser Masombuka.”

Pretorius added that during the annual Ke-Moja Award Ceremony, which was held in October 2021, SANCA Horizon’s Ke-Moja coaches won various awards: 10 out of the 12 coaches that participated in the competition won the Ke-Moja prizes.

Six coaches were in Top 20 category and out of those six two of them received awards for being the best coaches in Ekurhuleni region.

SANCA Horizon Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Plantation made an income of R13,098,599 for the 2022 financial year, Barcelona Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre made an income of R1 568 ,430, Daveyton Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre an income of R2 040 800 and Hlengwani Adolescent In-patient Treatment Centre an income of R1 075 240.

SANCA Horizon’s funds were collected as follows:

Subsidy received from the Department of Social Development R10,996,104. The money made out of donations, fundraisers and other income is R479, 937, patient fees R1 468 967, tuck shop R100 566 and interest received R53 026.
