Anderbolt power: City ‘working around the clock’ to fully restore electricity

The estimated time for full restoration is, however, not available yet.

The Ekurhuleni metro assures residents that its energy crews are working around the clock to fully restore power to the thousands of its Boksburg customers who have, for more than a week now, been forced to endure a 10-hour load reduction.

The power disruptions started on June 19 after the explosion of the critical Anderbolt substation, which landed some of the municipal technicians in hospital and left large parts of Boksburg, including Andebolt industrial site, in the dark for days.

“Currently, load rotation is ongoing in various parts of the area. Meanwhile, technicians are sourcing some electrical components to stabilise the grid and fully restore power to all areas soon. Restoration time will be communicated once all the components have been found,” explained metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.

The estimated time for full restoration for the areas is not available yet,
The municipality said customers will be updated on developments. Residents are advised to continuously treat electrical networks as live at all times.
Residents from the affected areas said the erratic power supply is negatively impacting their families and businesses, with some companies battling to operate when their areas lose power supply during the 10-hour load reduction period.
