Ambulances stand idle for years

The ambulances have been stationery for a long time.

Six “City of Ekurhuleni” ambulances stand idle at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station.

A source, who chose to remain anonymous, said the ambulances were stationary there for years without any effort from the metro to sell or re-use them.

“The ambulances have been stagnant here since the Gauteng Department of Health took over ambulance services in the province. It is sad to see the property of the metro deteriorate without use.

“If they don’t resolve this situation, parts are bound to be stolen, so the metro must act quickly to avoid incurring more damage,” the source said.

“There are more abandoned metro vehicles at other fire stations and depots. Thieves have already targeted some of them.”

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the metro did not have ambulances.

Gauteng Department of Health has been asked to comment.
