The City of Ekurhuleni has called upon members of the community to participate in the process of drafting the new water service by-laws.

Lerato Mabula from the City of Ekurhuleni’s Water and Sanitation Department explains the importance of public participation in the process of drafting the by-laws.

The by-laws intend to give effect to clause 11 chapter 3 of the Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997), which puts a duty on the city as a water service authority to progressively ensure efficient, affordable, economical and sustainable access to water services to all consumers and/or potential consumers in its area of jurisdiction.

Public meetings are being held in different parts of the city to elaborate on the process. A meeting for Boksburg and Benoni is set to take place on March 2 at the Boksburg City Hall. A meeting for Vosloorus will be held on February 28 at Vosloorus Civic Hall.
