Police officer rushed to hospital, partner found dead in Windmill Park home

A case of murder was opened and investigation are ongoing.

A Windmill Park resident and police officer, Sergeant James Lesiba Serota of the Anti-Gang Unit at Brixton Flying Squad, allegedly shot his partner, Tumelo Masola, 12 times before turning the gun on himself at their home in Ext 28 on October 6.

According to Phaladi Shuping, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the sequence of events began at around 02:20 when a member of the public reported hearing multiple gunshots from Serota’s residence.

“Upon arrival at the scene in Kigali Street, officers discovered Sergeant Serota critically injured but still alive, with a gunshot wound to the forehead.

“He was lying on the floor next to a firearm. The body of his partner was found in the bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds.”

” Sergeant Serota was rushed to the Thella Mogwerane Hospital.

“We are unaware of his current condition, but he is still receiving care in the hospital.”

The IPID spokesperson said the couple had been arguing before the fatal shooting.

A murder case was opened.
