Flying squad nabs eMalahleni house robbers

Investigations into the matter are continuing.

Three men wanted in connection with a house robbery in eMalahleni, were arrested in Phumula, Alberton.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson, on June 14, unit officers conducted routine patrols on the R554, near the Mall@Carnival when four vehicles, including a private security company, eMalahleni neighbour watch and SAPS stopped requesting their assistance.

“The group were tracking a maroon Mazda 2, which was taken during a house robbery, earlier in the day,” said Giblin.

“Leading the convoy down Lyvuya Street, towards the sought vehicle, the suspects abandoned the vehicle, attempting to flee on foot. They were arrested with the assistance of the community.

“Shoes, a pillow, and a blanket linked to the incident were found in the vehicle.”

eMalahleni law enforcement further alleged a white Toyota Quantum dropped the suspects off near the scene of the crime. The Mazda 2, five laptops, two large safes containing an undisclosed amount of money, and smaller items were taken.

The Quantum was traced back to eMalahleni and the officers arrested the owner.

“They recovered the safes, however, the money and laptops were allegedly already en route to Mozambique.

In a further development, eMalahleni-based investigating officer, Captain Tshidi Mamarega, received information on June 15, that a third suspect linked to the matter was arrested and that various stolen vehicles were held at his residence.

“With the suspect in tow, the officer and her team visited the home. The stolen vehicles and 40kg heroin were found,” said Giblin.
“The suspect faces additional charges of possession of drugs and accessory to robbery.”
