Impala Park shooting: Swanson not allowed to visit his house

The matter will resume on April 16.

Evan Swanson (73) from Impala Park, accused of shooting and killing his neighbour, will no longer be able to visit his house.

This was Magistrate Nomalanga Mqambeli’s ruling at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on March 11 regarding an amendment to Swanson’s bail conditions.

“So, now I’m not allowed to visit my wife?” asked an upset Swanson after the judgement from the dock, where he stood dressed in a neat shirt torn at the back.

Even though Swanson may not move back to his house and can now also not visit there, Mqambeli said he will only have to report to the Edenvale SAPS every second Friday.

Swanson stands accused of shooting his neighbour, Klaas du Toit, twice in the upper body on August 18. He previously told the court it was in self-defence.

The court granted Swanson R5 000 bail on September 4, with the condition he resides with his daughter in Edenvale until the court finalises the matter. Another condition was that he must report to the Edenvale SAPS every Friday.

In an appearance on October 23, Swanson indicated he wanted the bail conditions amended.

Later, the court heard it was upsetting for Klaas’ twin brother, Roelf, to see Swanson at a grocery store in the area and his (Swanson’s) house.

The magistrate postponed the matter to April 16 for further investigations.
