FOLLOW-UP: Impala Park murder: suspects still on the run

Police are urging community members with information to come forward.

The suspect/s involved in the murder of Impala Park’s Chris van der Merwe (57) are still on the loose.

Van der Merwe’s burnt body was found in his house on Elizabeth Road at about 06:00 on January 6 after the house had been set alight.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack confirmed that police are still pursuing a positive lead.
“The CCTV footage that was received has been taken for investigation,” said Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu previously explained that the autopsy revealed that Van der Merwe was still alive when the house was on fire.

Van der Merwe’s light blue metallic Honda Civic, registration WXZ 804 GP, is still missing.

The police ask community members who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect/s who committed murder, arson, house burglary and theft to come forward.
Mngomezulu urged community members to remain vigilant as house break-ins and robberies in Impala Park and Atlasville are rife.

The station commander explained about three robberies/break-ins are reported at the station in a week.

“These incidents happen in broad daylight. In some instances they lift the gate off the rail to gain access to the property. In other instances they also break windows to gain entry,” warned Mngomezulu.
Mngomezulu said these criminals are after items like appliances that can be sold.
