Hawks arrest Boksburg man over multi-million rand fraud

The suspect made his first court appearance on January 10, and his case was postponed to January 17 for a formal bail application.

The 31-year-old Martin Mochabi was arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations (Hawks) on fraud worth R5.7m.

Members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) reportedly pounced on Mochabi at his home in Boksburg on January 9. They also confiscated the alleged fraudster’s Mercedes-Benz V300 Vito.
“It is alleged that Mochabi, who was appointed as a financial administrator at a financial institution, had in the course of his duties, between June 2023 and December 2023, fraudulently paid R5.7m from his employer’s bank account into the bank accounts of fictitious suppliers called Enelo (PTY) LTD and TNA (PTY) LTD,” explained Warrant Officer Thatohatsi Mavimbela.

“The money would subsequently be paid back into the account of the suspect wherein the suspect would then pay the bogus suppliers kickbacks.
“The financial institution investigated its fraud investigation department and reported it to the Hawks’ SCI in Johannesburg. Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspect.”
The suspect made his first court appearance on January 10, and his case was postponed to January 17 for a formal bail application.
