Security guard injured during CIT heist

The robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The South African Police task team which comprises of the Provincial Crime Scene, Bomb Disposal and Gauteng Detectives, have launched a manhunt following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in the vicinity of Dawn Park on December 30.

According to national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the incident happened at 14:30.

“Investigations revealed that a cash van was driving along the R554 turning into the corner of Old Heidelberg and Central Park Roads heading to Dawn Park when a blue Chrysler Voyager ramped into the van and bumped it at the back, forcing it off the road,” said Mathe.

The unknown number suspects from the Chrysler then started shooting at the cash van and the security guards had to get out of the van.

Two of the guards were robbed of their 9mm pistols and the suspects bombed the back of the van and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Mathe added one of the guards was injured during the incident and taken to hospital.

Investigations are underway.
