Ekurhuleni metro shocked by brutal killing of its adjudicator

The police are investigating a case of murder and had made no arrests at the time of going to press.

The CoE announced on December 12 that its employee, Simnikiwe Mapini, who worked as an adjudicator in the finance department, was killed in a hail of bullets on December 8 near Rand Airport in Germiston.

He was travelling with a colleague at the time. Their vehicle was waiting for the traffic lights to turn green when another car pulled next to theirs. Two gunmen jumped out of the car and started firing at Mapini before speeding off.
Mapini died at the scene, but his colleague was uninjured. The motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage.

“This is a sad incident, one that has shocked the municipality. Mapini was a hard-working young man, and our condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues during this trying time,” said metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini.
“Making the situation worse is that his family members were robbed of a loved one just days before Christmas, a time of family reunion, in most instances.”

The police are investigating a case of murder and had made no arrests at the time of going to press.
A memorial service for Mapini was held at the Germiston City Hall yesterday (December 13).
