UPDATE: Driver who hit pedestrian reports to the police

Police needs assistance to help identify the victim.

Boksburg North police have confirmed that the driver involved in the accident that left a pedestrian dead near the Boksburg North swimming pool this morning (November 29) surrendered himself to the police.

The accident happened on the corner of 4th Street and Trichardts Road in the early hours of this morning.

Information initially received from the police claimed this was a hit-and-run and they appealed for information about the vehicle and driver involved.
Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu has since rectified the error and explained that the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian went to the police station immediately after the incident.

While police have registered a culpable homicide docket, the driver is not yet charged pending further investigations into the accident.

Police officers responding to the report of a pedestrian who had been hit found the unidentified victim, possibly a homeless person, lying on the road.
Authorities are appealing for public assistance to identify the deceased.

The victim is believed to be between 20 and 30, and he was wearing black clothing and a reflective jacket.
