SAPS units arrest 73 suspects

Suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate's courts.

Members of the Gauteng SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS) have arrested 73 suspects in seven days.

Operations were held from November 10 to 16 and form part of the unit’s ongoing fight against crime.

Participating in various concentrated operations across the province, 31 suspects were arrested on charges including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, damage to property, business burglary, fraud, shoplifting, theft, robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, possession of suspected motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Officers further recovered 58 hijacked and stolen vehicles accompanied by 12 arrests for the possession of these vehicles,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson.

“One suspect was also arrested on charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Two firearms were recovered in separate incidents.”

Twenty-nine suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
