Reiger Park SAPS warns people to be careful

According to spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, the station has recorded an increase in fraud and murder cases.

Reiger Park police are cautioning residents of Reiger Park and surrounding areas to walk in safe areas at all times and to ignore messages that come from untrustworthy sources.

According to spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, the station has recorded an increase in fraud and murder cases.

“We urge our community members not to respond to any messages they receive via cellphones stating that they have won money and must call the number to collect it. This is a scam and you should be suspicious, especially if you have not entered any competition,” Msimanga explained.

He added that when you call the scammers they say you must deposit money first before you can claim the prize money.

“That should be a sign that it’s a scam,” he said.

With regard to the increase in murders in the area, Msimanga said the police are conducting ongoing crime prevention operations.

However, it’s important for residents to keep themselves safe, especially when walking.

“Avoid walking in isolated areas like an open veld alone. In fact, avoid walking in the veld altogether. Veld areas in Reiger Park are hotspots for criminal activities, like muggings and murders, which we have recorded happen in the early mornings and late at night.

“We are planning to increase crime operations and visibility towards the festive season,” Msimanga said.
