Impala Park shooting: Accused granted bail

The matter will resume on October 23.

The 73-year-old Impala Park man arrested for shooting and killing his neighbour was granted R5 000 bail in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on September 4.

Again wearing a Springbok jacket, Evan Swanson used a walking frame when escorted into the court by authorities.

He faces a murder charge and appeared for a formal bail application.

His bail was granted on the condition he resides with his daughter in Edenvale until the matter is finalised. Furthermore, he must report to the Edenvale Police Station every Friday.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu previously said police were told a fight broke out when Swanson went to his neighbour to ask him to turn the music down.

“During the fight, the suspect allegedly went into his house, came out with a firearm and killed his neighbour. The police arrested him on the scene, seized his firearm and booked it in at the police station,” added Mngomezulu.

The deceased was shot twice in the upper body.

In his previous appearance on August 21, the court saw Swanson’s injuries, including wounds near his eye and a bruised and swollen hand, which he claimed was caused by the 37-year-old neighbour, Herculaas du Toit, who was fatally shot.

The matter was postponed till October 23 for further investigation.
