Specialised units continue to crack the whip on crime

Flying Squad members seized more than 600 bags containing crystal meth.

Specialised law enforcement units were out and about, cracking the whip on crime and bringing criminals to book.

From August 18 to 27, members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested two suspects, while units under the provincial’s Rapid Response Services (RRS), comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, made 119 arrests across Gauteng.

These were the reported successes:

Possession of drugs
• On August 25, BFS members received information about drugs at a home on Khuraan Street, Rabie Ridge.

After searching the residence, the officers found 640 ziplock bags of crystal meth, 26g of broken Mandrax tablets and two scales.

“They arrested two women, aged 32 and 35, on the scene,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS spokesperson.

“They will appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent of selling.”

• RRS members arrested 42 individuals on charges of being in possession with the intent of selling.

They confiscated heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal meth.

Arrests
As weekly operations intensified, RRS members conducted vehicle checkpoints and intensive patrols.

Officers arrested 57 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence, house burglary, robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of vehicle-breaking implements, theft, possession of unlicensed ammunition and being in the country illegally.

Stolen vehicles
Further arrests included 12 persons found in possession of stolen and hijacked vehicles. Officers recovered 56 vehicles.
