Thugs target pricey vans in Boksburg

In one of the incidents, the victim reported he was hijacked by what appeared to be police officers.

The Boksburg police are investigating several recent cases where vehicles were stolen or hijacked in separate incidents within a week.

Here are some of the reported cases:

• A delivery driver had his company vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, hijacked by three ‘police officers’ who were driving a Nissan NP300 Hardbody on May 3.
The driver told police he was driving along Van Dyk Road, near the cemetery and licensing department, when the ‘police’ pulled him over and asked to see his licence.
They then covered his face, tied his hands with cable ties and took his personal belongings before dragging him into their vehicle.
He was driven to Windmill Park and freed in an open veld.

• A white Ford Ranger was stolen while parked outside the Boksburg City Stadium on Jubilee Road on May 6. The owner received a tracking alert and informed her husband. When he investigated, he found the vehicle was missing.

• In Sunward Park, a grey Ford Ranger was stolen while parked at the Sunward Lifestyle Centre on May 6 while the owner was shopping.

Burglary
Thieves forced their way into the SPAR in Van Wyk Louw Drive in Parkrand and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the safe sometime during the night between May 5 and 6. Workers arrived on the morning of May 6 to find a hole cut in the roof. CCTV footage shows the intruders were two men.
Anyone with information about these or other crimes is urged to contact the Boksburg police on 082 575 1740 or 011 841 6844/5.
