Four suspects nabbed for housebreaking and motorcycle theft

The suspects may be linked to similar cases of hijacking and theft

Four suspects were nabbed in the early hours of April 25 on charges of house break-in and motorcycle theft in Farrarmere.

According to information, members of the Ekurhuleni Central District Task team were placed in strategic points in and around Boksburg and Benoni in an attempt to combat a surge in motorcycle theft.

Members of the police, assisted by the CPF and local security companies, responded to information about a motorcycle that was stolen during a house break-in on Chrome Street.

“While patrolling the area, officers spotted a Renault Megan and a Nissan Impendulo, with six suspects loading a large heavy item into the minibus,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Nomsa Sekele.

“Members acted swiftly which led to a high-speed chase through the suburb. Strategic manoeuvres were used to finally bring the speeding vehicles to a stop.”

According to Sekele, two suspects evaded arrest, however, four were detained and arrested.

“Officers found the stolen motorcycle in the back of the minibus, while further investigations led them to a house in Daveyton where a motorcycle was found in the garage,” she said.

“Records indicate that the motorcycle was stolen in Atlasville, on April 24.”

The three Zimbabwean nationals and one South African, were detained at the Benoni Police Station.

“Investigations into this matter are continuing as it is suspected that the suspects may be linked to similar cases of hijacking and theft which has plagued the two cities in recent weeks,” said Sekele.

“Both motorcycles have been returned to the rightful owners while housebreaking implements were seized.”

The suspects will be appearing in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
