Lengthy sentence for man who slit girlfriend’s throat

A thorough investigation by Detective Warrant Officer Vusi Tlemo led to the conviction.

A 30-year-old man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Boksburg North was sentenced to over 10 years behind bars by the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Justice Ramaube, Chrispen Ndlovu faced charges of murder, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and contravening the Immigration Act.

Ramaube explained that Ndlovu killed Mmakgotso Modisakeng (29) by cutting her throat with a sharp object on April 4, 2021.

“Ndlovu was the last person seen with his girlfriend the night before he killed her and ran away with their nine-month-old son,” he said.

A thorough investigation by Detective Warrant Officer Vusi Johannes Tlemo led to the conviction.

Tlemo explained he worked hard on the case and had many sleepless nights because of it.

“The couple fought at a tavern on First Street. Friends separated them, and the couple then walked home. Mmakgotso’s siblings later found her under a bed and phoned the police. Her boyfriend had taken her shirt off and used it to clean the house,” Tlemo explained.

“I had to search for evidence and contact the family and friends to get to the bottom of it.”

The breakthrough came when Ndlovu’s mother convinced him to hand himself over to the police.

“What made the case challenging was that it received media and political attention,” Tlemo added.

Ndlovu was sentenced on February 14 to eight to 10 years imprisonment for murder, three years for defeating the ends of justice and kidnapping and an R800 fine or three months imprisonment for contravention of the Immigration Act, and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
